I am really gay to be a New Yorker right now. Not to be confused with my sexual orientation: which is pie-curious… not that there’s anything wrong with that. I know a lot of gay people. I mean, a lot. And way more if you count the ones that haven’t admitted it yet. To gauge how many gay people I know: I went to an art High School. So It’s both very pleasing, and very upsetting to know that only now they can legally get married.
But even though it didn’t happen a long time ago like it should have, knowing that it happened and being alive (albeit asleep) when the news came out (of the closet) is very exciting. Last I had heard, the bill had gotten to the (dance) floor of the senate. I know a lot of men and women have (les)bien waiting for this for a very long time.
I mean, I’m already very proud to be from here. I don’t know why, I didn’t choose to be, it’s not actually an accomplishment, being born. But now it kind of makes sense for me to like it here. Knowing that some of my friends whou couldn’t, can now marry whoever they love AND file their income taxes jointly. Again, I’m just full of pride. I guess a lot of other people are too, because now I’m hearing there will be a parade just full of very proud people this sunday. Maybe I should I go.
So hear-hear, queers! Weddings in this state just way more fabulous.
